Moguu
Dried Mushroom Packaging
With the increasing market for Asian cooking goods in mainstream Australian supermarkets, ‘Moguu’ is a brand that aims to intersect the Asian cook who is familiar with these ingredients with the less familiar new user in a visually appealing yet nostalgic packaging design inspired by old Chinese newspapers. Addressing goals of eco-consciousness, packaging that combines paper printing with biodegradable plastic is designed to create a sustainable alternative to air-tight packaging for dried mushrooms. In addition to this, labels for the product in the form of stickers and tags are added within the package contents to encourage users to engage in practices of reuse and sustainable storage of food.
The brief for this project was to design a set of three packaging designs for different types of dried food products that are both sustainable and minimises waste. The dried food group selected for this project is dried mushrooms, specifically targeted towards an Asian market. One of the challenges of packaging dried mushrooms is finding sustainable methods of preservation and encouraging users to find environmental methods of storing these products with many Asian dried mushroom packaging found in supermarkets today composed almost entirely of plastic. With the typical Asian cook in
mind as the target demographic, the aim of this project was to design a set of three packages for dried mushrooms that is both visually appealing and sustainable.
